Happy 2nd Birthday Blog

Today the blog turns 2 years old. So, we got it some pigs!

Our buddy Huck was kind enough to loan us his kennel, so we could transport the five piglets. We went out to a farm on a windy ridge-top this morning and loaded them in the Subaru. This makes the third kind of livestock that car has hauled. 

Farmer John had a big grin on his face for the whole ride, despite the smell. 

They are settling in to their new home. They have two stalls in the barn with lots of hay bedding. We built a trough for their food and have a tub for water. They were happy to find both - I'm assuming they were happy from all the snorting.

Thanks to our IT guy, Sam,  for saving the blog on numerous occasions. And now, he does it all the way from the University of Wisconsin! 

We hope you have a fantastic birthday. We can't wait to reunite for more shenanigans either here or there! 

Coming soon

We don't have a lot of news to share from the farm. Everyone seems to be in auto-pilot and getting on with routine tasks. The cattle are eating their hay and lounging around by the barn. The chickens are scratching constantly and have gone into egg-laying overdrive. The guineas are patrolling the property and alerting us to loud gas trucks at 10pm. 

The biggest news is that bacon  hogs will be arriving soon! Farmer John bought five piglets last week. They have a couple more weeks before they are weaned, and then we will get them. The plan is to house them in the barn for a couple weeks and then put them on pasture for the rest of their stay here. The bacon should be arriving in mid-August. We're excited, it's a dream coming true!
