My #1 Farm Tool

Alright, who's been keeping track? Do you know what my second and third favorite farm tools are? If you've been waiting with baited breath for #1 here it is:

My favorite farm tool is our Echo Chainsaw. Why is it the best tool around? It's lightweight so it's easy for me to handle. It's small so my hands fit around the throttle. AND, it's a chainsaw, which is just generally fun to use.

Here's Farmer John and the Echo:

Here's "Migrant Farm-Hand Becky" with the Echo:

It's a great saw. We used it to cut up a tree the other day. Farmer John usually uses the big Makita saw. Unfortunately, the chain came off and we were up on the hill and we didn't have the right tool to fix it. We still were able to cut up a truckload of wood.

We've cut about four truckloads of wood so far. We'll need some more before winter rolls around. A few more days in the woodlot with my trusty chainsaw should result in being warm by the fire all winter.

  1. I am particularly fond of the kevlar chaps you, John and immigrant farm-hand Becky are wearing. Good job taking care of your help!
Does this news mean you will not need the usual October crew to help with wood in october?

  2. Tough Ladies! I, too, am impressed with yur attention to safety. Do you have protective googles as well? You are all so busy I can hardly keep up!

I was just getting ready to alert you to the food section in today's NYT...a whole page devoted to eggplants.

  3. Grrr...I hate typos. Yur should be your. And googles should be goggles. Still I believe the Google company would be delighted by my mistake! Google wants to rule the world and they are making progress.

  4. Have you found any trees with initials in it/them? You'll find several with Teresa, Jenny and I. I'm sure there are others too. I used to love cutting wood on the hill. It's nice to know that you aren't depending on any company, other than your own, to keep you warm! Lovin the blog Mollie! Great pics too.

Migrant Farm Worker Jim says ... I'd love to help but the walk from Charleston doesn't leave me much time. When Susi gets her broom fixed, then perhaps we can fly up there and help with the wood.
