...but not a drop to drink.

Wendell Berry says, "Be joyful though you have considered all the facts."

I'm trying Wendell, really I am. I think if actual chocolate milk was coming out of the faucet that would be better. However, we are going to let bleach and time just do their jobs and hope the water will clear up soon.

  1. Or "Be careful what you wish for"? (The wish in this case being running water. The lesson would be to be specific in your wishes.) Does the well company have a guess as to how long it will take to produce drinkable water through the pipes? How deep did they have to go?

You and John certainly have had some months, haven't you? But very soon now you will be driving up to your house with beautiful sparkling clear running water. And won't that be a day!

  2. I'd expect that for a time since it is through earth that the water comes - but from the picture, there are filters in place? And wouldn't some sort of filtering system be easy to add since the well is now not under the house? Just curious and learning each time I read your blog.

  3. Kate- thank you for the encouraging words! We've been calling it the "winter from hell". I know soon enough we'll have water, a bridge, a driveway and a lot less mud. Come back in May again and we'll toast to it all on the porch!

Susi - No, at this point there aren't any filters. They told us it would take a few days for everything to settle and to run all the muddy water through the pipes. It has cleared up a lot since that photo, but isn't water that we want to drink just yet. Maybe this weekend it will be ready (fingers crossed!)
