Farm Boots

Boots are essential footwear around the farm. This Christmas Farmer John and I did something really very romantic and gave each other new boots. Awww....

I gave Farmer John a pair of Rocky work boots. I know they don't look new in the photo, that's because he's been wearing them non-stop since Christmas. And, due to Bonnie and Clyde he's been in some mud puddles. He says he really likes them and would even wear them as dress shoes if they weren't covered in a two-inch thick layer of mud.

Farmer John gave me a new pair of Servus rubber boots. My old ones finally bit the dust after keeping my feet dry for the last 6 years. I ripped a hole in them while trying to free myself from knee-deep muck. The new boots are getting me though all the mud around the farm, and they're blue!

We are both really tired of the mud all over the farm. We're just grateful our feet will be warm and dry this winter.

They say a Norwegian extrovert is one who looks at someone else's feet instead of their own. Is that what's going on here?

  3. Have you seen the show about the two men who own BEEKMAN farm? They have the best muck boots and when I read this, I thought of you two. Knowing the farm all these years - the only way to NOT have mud is to A ... not drive up the hill and B ... not have cattle and C ... not have kids or COCO in the creek and D ... no rain ... and the list goes on. Loving you two on these many mad capp adventures - even in the mud. And Hey - you've made some great dishes from mud! So perhaps Farmer John can set up a potters wheel from an old sharpening stone and away you can pot!

  4. These boots were made for walking and that's just what they'll do, one of these these boots are going to walk all over... farmer john. I think nancy sinatra sang those lines? I read your blog now four times and I still don't see anything about the 11th being my birthday! and they call it happy birthday.

  5. Oh, sorry I guess I forgot to mention that it was my favorite naturalist's birthday. Aldo Leopold was born on January 11, 1887. He taught me the principles of conservation and sense of place. Now there is a guy I want to paddle a canoe with and stop for a sandbar beer. But, since Aldo isn't available Don is the next best thing. Cheers!
