Good News / Bad News

I've got good news and bad news. Which do you want first? Bad news?

One of the pigs died. (Please, no bacon jokes on this one, ok?)

It was the runt of the group. At first this wasn't noticeable  but over the last couple weeks it didn't look like it grew at all. We didn't worry about this, we just thought it was the runt. Maybe there was something else going on, but it never showed signs of being sick. One day is was rooting around in the pasture, and the next day it was dead.

That's really all I have to say about that, besides that it really just...sucks.

Now...good news!

On Sunday, Farmer John moved the pigs from the barn to their new pasture. I know the move was frustrating at first, but then he figured out a method and it worked perfectly. Hilariously and perfectly.

The pigs seem very happy in their new pasture. They scampered around with us for a few minutes, then started rooting. It's been so much fun to watch them out there just being pigs.

  2. Mollie, sorry about the piglet. Did the farmer worm them before you got them? We just got two more 30 lb pigs and we will have to worm them. Having the other pigs on pasture, especially dirt helps them get the iron they need.

    1. Thanks Tari- I think they were wormed before coming to our place. John is planning on worming them again now that they have moved to pasture. Have fun with your pigs!

  3. This is the sh*t part about your life, and I'm so very sorry to hear about the little piglet, but I appreciate your sharing the bad news along with the good. And I'm happy to see that the fence still seems to be standing!

  4. Dad and I are sorry about the loss of the littlest one. (:
As an experienced pig wrangler, I can appreciate how moving the herd, flock, gaggle, pod, school etc. of pigs would be frustrating. The hilarity is what I am looking forward to hearing about!

  6. Life on a farm is all about nature and the cycles within her. Will you be doing an autopsy or having one done to assure it was nothing the rest could have? Just curious. I think this will be a wonderfully exciting Summer season at the farm. Sending hugs and wishes to see more pics!
